based upon the location, iconv came from Macports. Should I be using
another version?

I'm on snow leopard intel and I get:
~$ iconv -l | grep -i utf\.8
UTF-8
UTF-8-MAC UTF8-MAC

I'm not familiar with the iconv stuff, so it shouldn't be showing
UTF-8? What then should it be? Any suggestions on a fix? Can I
specify a in freetds.conf?
