Not speed or reliability, no. We have less experience with TDS 8.0, so
reliability might be marginally worse.

Functionality gains are mostly in collation: TDS 8.0 allows per-column
charsets, whereas TDS 7.0 has one charset for the whole session. TDS
8.0 also introduces new datatypes: bigint and sql_variant. And SSL, of
course.
