Have you tried DBD::ODBC & an ODBC Driver? This method worked fine for me,
although I'm still hoping to use FreeTDS at some point. Although I was
trying to do this for solaris, I imagine the same is true of Linux. There
are probably more drivers for Linux than there are for solaris, so you may
have more choices than I did. The Merant driver was the one I tested with
(although I didn't test long strings). Easysoft makes an ODBC bridge, as
does OpenRDA. I've never gotten around to testing them, but I imagine that
they work fine as well, and are substantially cheaper.

Merant (Intersolv) ODBC Driver, DBI & DBD::ODBC
http://www.merant.com/datadirect/products/odbc/connect/overview.asp
Approx $4000, works well

Easysoft ODBC-ODBC bridge, DBI & DBD::ODBC
http://www.easysoft.com/products/oob/main.phtml
Have not tested, seems promising. $800

OpenRDA, DBI & DBD::ODBC
http://www.odbcsdk.com/Products/OpenRDA/ODBC_UNIX/ODBC_Unix.asp
Same technology as Easysoft. I believe it costs approx $900

Subject: [freetds] MS SQL Server 7.0 and Perl

I know this has probably been covered but I can't find a useful answer. So
here it goes. Our platform consists of a Redhat Linux 6.1 box running Perl
and Apache. The database is on WinNT with SQL Server 7.0. We want to
connect the two together. We have tried using the DBD::Sybase but it will
not work becuase we are storing Articles which are over 255 characters. Is
there something we are missing or can we not do this? Also we tried to use
the DBD::Proxy and ODBC but we are having a problem with performance (5-10
seconds of lag time, which is not acceptable to the higher ups).

Any help will be appreciated.
thanks in advance
