Did you do a

export SYBASE=/usr/local/freetds
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=${LD_LIBRARY_PATH}:$SYBASE/lib

before doing the configure/make for PHP and Apache? (assuming you are
using bash that is). Also you probably need to set these in you
httpd.conf as well (SetEnv is the directive I think)

BTW RH6.0 compiles cleanly for me without upgrading any tools.

When configuring with sybase-ct you'll need to remove the openclient
libraries other than -lct (remove -lcs -lcomn -lintl -ltcl etc...).
However the dblib version has been tested more than ctlib.
