The database has no concept of time zones. The time zone the server is in
has nothing to do with anything. All I want is to be given whatever time
is sitting in the database. I should be able to store PST, CST, or
whatever format I decide to stick in the database.

The problem is that when you use the Java timestamp (on the client) it is
putting it into GMT (based on the client's time zone). What should happen
is that this time should be unscrewed up by subtracting back out (on the
client) the conversion it applied to the time.

I can't imagine the JDBC standard says that all DB times should be
converted to GMT. Who are they to tell me how to store my times? ODBC
does not do this.

I understand the confusion here when thinking about the time zones. The
trick is to understand that the time zones have nothing to do with
anything. The thing is to give the client back what is in the database.

If you would like me to make the appropriate fixes in the driver and send
it to you, I would be happy to.
