Lynn,

There seems to be no end to the material published on Romans. Here are my
recommendations, supplemental to those already mentioned by others, of
monographs and commentaries for your bibliography. All are published
post-1996. Recommendations of articles will have to wait until I have time
to collect the material. Any doctoral students out there working on Romans
who have their bibliography at hand???

Four monographs that belong on anyone's list of significant works include

J. Ross Wagner. HERALDS OF THE GOOD NEWS: ISAIAH AND PAUL 'IN CONCERT' IN
THE LETTER TO THE ROMANS. Brill, 2002.

Timothy W. Berkley. FROM A BROKEN COVENANT TO CIRCUMCISION OF THE HEART:
PAULINE INTERTEXTUAL EXEGESIS IN ROMANS 2:1729. SBLDS 175. SBL, 2000.

Mark Reasoner. THE STRONG AND THE WEAK: ROMANS 14.115.13 IN CONTEXT. SNTSMS
103. Cambridge, 1999.

Angelika Reichert. DER ROMERBRIEF ALS GRATWANDERUNG: EINE UNTERSUCHUNG ZUR
ABFASSUNGSPROBLEMATIK. FRLANT 194. Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht, 2001.

If you are including commentaries, I would add N. T. Wright's contribution
in the New Interpreter's Bible, plus

Eduard Lohse's DER BRIEF AN DIE ROMER. KEK. Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht, was
scheduled to appear in July. Haven't heard if it is out yet.

Klaus Haacker. DER BRIEF DES PAULUS AN DIE ROMER. THKNT 6. Evangelische
Verlagsanstalt, 1999.

Luke Timothy Johnson. READING ROMANS. Smyth & Helwys, 2001.

In addition, I would add the following:

Bruce W. Longenecker, ed. NARATIVE DYNAMICS IN PAUL; A CRITICAL ASSESSMENT.
Westminster/JKP, 2002.

A. Katherine Grieb. THE STORY OF ROMANS: A NARRATIVE DEFENSE OF GOD'S
RIGHTEOUSNESS. Westminster/JKP, 2002.

Christopher Bryan. A PREFACE TO ROMANS. Oxford, 2000.

Michael Theobald. STUDIEN ZUM ROMERBRIEF. WUNT 136. Mohr-Siebeck, 2001.

Wendy Dabourne. PURPOSE AND CAUSE IN PAULINE EXEGESIS; ROMANS 1.164.25 AND
A NEW APPROACH TO THE LETTERS. SNTMS 104. Cambridge, 1999.

Richard H Bell. NO ONE SEEKS FOR GOD. WUNT 106. Mohr-Siebeck, 1998.

Several essays worth consulting can be found in Sven K. Soderlund & N. T.
Wright, eds. ROMANS & THE PEOPLE OF GOD. Eerdmans, 1999. See, esp. the
pieces by Rikki Watts, Craig A. Evans, Philip H. Towner, Michael W. Holmes,
and Larry W. Hurtado.

I have not had a chance to look at the following in any depth:

Shiu-Lun Shum. PAUL'S USE OF ISAIAH IN ROMANS. WUNT 2.156. Mohr-Siebeck,
2002.

Florian Wilk. DIE BEDEUTUNG DES JESAJABUCHES FUR PAULUS. FRLANT 179.
Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht, 1998.
