Perhaps something to do with a change of leadership from Jesus, as you
say radical, itinerant and charismatic, to brother James, more concerned with
matters of law, probably neither charismatic nor particularly radical, though
he presumably accepted Jesus' basic emphases, and definitely not an
itinerant?
