It takes more than one article. There is an immense bibliography on the social setting in Corinth, as there is on women in the Roman world. I am writing this in my office without resources [they are all at home]. But try the recent commentary on 1 Cor in Sacra Pagina by Ray Collins.

And you might begin with Wayne Meeks, the first urban christians.
