Peter, your series would be incomplete without Augustine, the founder of the
Old Perspective's reading of Paul. Preliminary to that, a lecture on Marcion
could serve to show how from early on Paul's own concerns and heritage were
not appreciated or understood, which led to the vacuum filled by Augustine's
use of Paul's letters to express his own theological perspective as Paul's.

Your lecture on Sanders could include the contributions of W.D. Davies and
James Dunn, and the lecture on Bultmann could include Kasemann.

The lectures on Marcion (#1) and Augustine (#2) would make seven, with one
more to fill. Perhaps the category for an eighth lecture could be
interpretations that focus on the sociological aspect of Paul's letters.
>From my limited readings in this category no single figure stands out as
key, but John M.G. Barclay has made an impact on my thinking in this aspect.

I am planning a series of eight lectures on the history of the study of
Paul. I think I should probably select eight key figures (one for each
lecture) and would then plan to fit in one or two others around each main
figure. As far as I can tell there are probably five non-negotiables:
Luther, Baur, Schweitzer, Bultmann, Sanders.

For the other three I am tempted to use Marcion, Augustine and Kasemann.

I am wondering whether anyone might have some suggestions/alternatives.

Peter
