oh fonk - NIGHTLIGHT ONE YEAR DANCE CRAZY PARTY - we welcome our
special guest and 1st time nightlighter, Amelia Burch - who comes w/
some spookified pop/folk melange of sound, the likes of which our
palettes have wetted for. the Cold Sides have readied up a full on
tech-nasty blaster power explosion of freaky beats to get down too.
hold on to yer pants tho, Mothers Brothers deliver a
disco-fried-phunk diskjockey set till closing time. and just maybe, a
little dj mole-i as well.

Chuck Johnson sent this update on this show:

Friday night - Shark Quest is playing at the Cave - this is part of a
special combined bill with the West End Wine Bar and it is a benefit
show in honor of Randy Ward. $5 gets you into both venues, with
staggered and slightly overlapping sets as follows:

Of course you should make every effort to catch one of the Cold Sides'

Saturday, February 28
Degrassi, The Joneses, Red Skeleton
Bickett Gallery, Raleigh

My old friend Russ DeSena sent this email:

You all need to know about the Degrassi show @ Bickett Gallery, 2/28,
saturday. The band is me (Chickens, Halifax, Night Moose), Christie
Eames (Orifice, Blue Green Gods, Starletta, Bucks Deluxe), Catherine
Carpenter (One Percenters, the Dents), and Phil Martelli (Make it
Stop, Lord Neck, Bucks Deluxe, Daddy). I think the pedigree here
pretty much speaks for itself. What do we sound like? Some kids in
Wilmington thought we sound like the Pixies. I dunno, I hear some mix
of Sonic Youth, Television, the Fall, My Bloody Valentine, V.U.? Post
everything thirty something rock hell. We debuted at the Bickett
Gallery and were informed that we were too loud, but they asked us
back so here we are (part of the problem is size, shape of room
methinks. Earplugs anyone?). Also playing I think are the Jonses,
which I believe is a Greg Eades (Vanilla Trainwreck) project, and Red
Skeleton, a Brian Neelon (Scuppernong, anyone?), thing. Amon
Duulesque photo by Jenn Thomas, btw.
Oh yeah, I'm sure most of you get the band's name's source, Degrassi
Junior High, Canadian teen crisis show from the 80s. At least I hope
so.

Saturday, February 28
Recess [http://www.dyss.net/nightlight/]
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

Chuck Johnson says:

Saturday night - I'm doing a set at the 9th installment of the
Nightlight's Recess series with my solo project Pykrete. Dale
Flattum, Zeke Graves (from the Cold Sides), David Nahm and Gordon's
Ape (with Crowmeat Bob - featured in this week's Independent) are
also doing short sets. As it happens this was also planned as a
benefit for Randy Ward, and proceeds will go to a fund to help
continue Randy's legacy. 10-ish. This weekend marks the Nightlight's
1st Anniversary! They have spruced the place up and rearranged it to
make it much more show-friendly.
