What happens when you try the default Xvesa
Xserver with this chipset? Xvesa does not use
XF86Config. XF86Config is used for an Xserver
from Slackware 4.0 (or elsewhere).

Unfortunately, the Xservers in Slackware 4.0
cannot do the Savage/IX. You will find an
Xserver that is supposed to work here:
------------------------------------
ftp://ftp.probo.com/pub/xf336sav.tgz
------------------------------------
But it requires glibc2. The default
library in BL3 is libc5, not glibc2.

This error has nothing to do with your Xserver
or with XF86Config. It is a library error.
Apparently your X library is incompatible with
your main library.

I'm not sure what is in the package you installed
(from Sindi, I think). It might be simpler to
re-install.
