http://keesan.freeshell.org/bl/lucent.tgz (561K) - drivers for 2.2.16, 2.2.26, and 2.4.31. Someone else compiled 2.2.26 lt_modem.o and lt_serial.o - perhaps Steven would post at his site.

mknod /dev/ttyLT0 c 62 64
pppsetup - change ttyS0 or ttyS1 to ttyLT0
copy the two modules to /lib/modules/2.2.26/misc/
insmod slhc
insmod ppp (for 2.4.31 kernels ppp_generic and ppp_async)
insmod lt_modem
insmod lt_serial
ppp-on

(See the dial4 script in my package - eznet up 4 can be replaced with ppp-on if you have only one modem. chmod +x).

Any PCI internal modem by Lucent/Agere will also work but
you need to download and insert a couple of driver modules
and make the pertinent devices.

Please detail for me what I need to download, how and where to install
and what devices need to be created. The hardware involved is a Compaq
Presario 2100. As I mentioned, the hard drive is gone. As a side note
(for your amusement) the repair shop I took this laptop to for repair
wanted $1500 to do the job.
