It works for me in console mode if I type the name of the binary (which
must be on the path). It works for me in graphical mode (svgalib) if I
type (where links219 is what I named the binary)

links219 -g -mode 640x480x256 (or 640x480x16 would also work)

I get a blank screen with a very large arrow. To get the menu I type ESC
key. If I do not type the -mode part I get an error message telling me to
specify the mode and listing all the possible modes. My monitor only
supports 640 so I picked that.

What specifically is not working for you? What happens when you try to
use Links 2?

I have written Doug Kaufman (who compiled pdftotext for DOS and Linux)
with your error message from the DOS pdftotext asking him for ideas. I
told him you have a math coprocessor.

You appear to have VESA 1.1, which will not work with Xvesa since Xvesa
needs VESA 2.0. Does whatvga2 also tell you that you have VESA 1.1?

You do have a math coprocessor.

VESA 1.1 will not work with XVESA, which needs VESA 2.0.

This is a VERY slow video chip. Some of my PCI cards can do 100K char/sec
but I tested them on faster computers which makes them faster, I think.
My ISA video card is about 50K/sec.
