the icewm menu has decided to ignore the applications I had installed (Abiword, Imagemagick and Xpaint). I
can only open them from an xterm. They are in the menu file but selecting them from the menu has no effect.

The fact that AbiWord, Imagemagick and Xpaint appear in
the menu indicates that icewm can find those executables.
When you click on the penguin, icewm checks each menu
item before displaying it. If it can't find the relevant
executable, it doesn't display it.

Actually, it seems to be a problem with ImageMagick. All the others are now working properly with just the name of the executable in the menu. But ImageMagick will not start from the menu either with just the executable 'display' or the complete path. And it sends a message to the error file saying 'Unable to map file'. If I type 'display' in an xterm it also gives the same error message but it does start. But it doesn't seem to carry out some of the operations I have tried, e.g. I can crop an image but the new version is not saved. I thought it might be a memory problem. I have 32 MB ram and an initial 42 MB swap partition which is soon used up. Just to see what happens I have tried giving it another 100 MB swap partition on another HD but the problem persists. I shall work at it over the weekend; meanwhile, has anyone got any ideas?
TIA,
Andrew
