Firstly, thanks for keeping me on my toes. Your observations are, as usual,
astute.

Yes, you are right to say that 'some' research points towards verbal aspect.
However, the interesting thing I am finding is that people working
independently of each other are coming up with similar conclusions regarding
verbal aspect. This, of course, does not mean that it is correct, but it
does mean it is worth investigating.

Dear George,

I also had some problems with the "recent research" in that it tended to
misrepresent the reality whereby while "recent research" has suggested this,
this "recent research" has not gained wide acceptance and most scholars
seem to still hold to more conventional paradigms. That is, that is my view,
but if it's somehow incorrect I'd appreciate being corrected on this. I am
not
sure that any "recent research" into the Hebrew verbal system can be
so quickly universally accepted and one may have to choose between
conventional methods and innovative methods, the first being more universally
accepted but the second being the product of recent research.

By the way, discussion on these issues recently took place at ANE-2 list, in
the following threads, which is signficant because ANE-2 list may be more
widely known to Semitists and scholars of the subject than this list:
