Dear Ian,

BaR:ZeL is probably meteoric iron, which was beaten out with a hammer.
Tubal Cain was a Lo+e$, a Hammerer, who beat out copper and (meteoric) iron.
The LXX has SIDHROS, betraying its "sidereal" origin. Tubal Cain was a
SFUROKOPOS, a Smiter with a Hammer, not a Smelter.

N:Co$eT is properly Copper, not Bronze: although it came to mean either.

The secret of smelting iron ore was discovered by the Hittites at the
beginning of the Iron Age in about 1500 BC. But the Copper Stone age
(Chalcolithic) began about 7000 BC or even earlier. The full Bronze Age
had to wait intil after 4000 BC when smelting and casting developed rapidly,
and copper was alloyed with Tin to make Bronze.

Just my $0.02
