Hi all, I've been talking with Nathan Kinkade about how we can up our
level of spam detterence.
We think the next line of defense, and because we aren't Wikipedia we
can do this (from nkinkade)
As far as the spam deterrent, perhaps we
should require a confirmed email address to make edits. We do that on
all CC wikis and it seems to work pretty well since many spammers
won't bother to sign up with a real email address and then go so far
as to verify it too. That would at least be a start. Acawiki is not
Wikipedia.org, so I don't think it's unreasonable to ask contributors
to have an account with a confirmed email address.
###
I think this is what we should do. We don't have enough contributors
like Wikipedia so its hard to police everything and maintain the
development level at present. So its a balance we have to strike right
now in that we don't want to be overrun by spam so much that people
are scared from the project, but we also want enough spam prevention
so that we stay sane and happy.
Cheers, and if no major problems with this, we will move on this in
the next few days.
Cheers
Jon
