What about shipping gcc-4.9.3 with a stable grimoire, only eschewing
the gcc-5.x upgrade, not things like glibc? I cannot say a bad thing
about that gcc version (well, except the odd Fortran bug that every
compiler has and that people don't get around fixing).
Given that CentOS 7 ships with gcc-4.8, we're state of the art for some
years with that, while gcc 4.6 is really getting long in the tooth.
