Dissent is what sharpens our thinking, allowing a new view, a new
perspective. The desire to stifle dissent---as is going on with Wiki
Leaks--is to me a dangerous symptom of autocratic control. Dissent is
good.
The very benefit of these lists is the opportunity to read diverse
ideas and views. When we disagree with a point of view, as adults we
can challenge it or ignore it.
If a viewpoint is at great odds with the general trends of thinking in
the group, no one will respond, and the writer will understand the
concept if not the actuality of "shunning" and will eventually grow
tired of the silence.
