Mulberries secrete a milky latex sap when cut.
If this sap ferments in the graft,it will fail.
Scoring the bark an inch below where the graft will be made several days ahead
of grafting allows the sap to drain ...thereby increasing the likelihood of sucess.
This technique works whereever there is a likelihood of excess sap flow entering the graft union .e.g. ,grafting grapes using dormant wood. |
