Really interesting. This has all kinds of implications.
I am now wondering if I should carry soil from my wild pawpaw patch to
enhance the soil around the grafted varieties that I am trying to grow?
Maybe the Susquehannah I just lost was especially sensitive to the new
site and the lack of specific symbiotes?
Should I be rotating my annual crops so much? For example, where is the
cost/benefit balance between the presence of beneficial fungi specific
to that crop that has accumulated in the soil during the previous
growing season, and the presence of potential crop-specific pathogens?
Thanks Lon and Doug, this is really useful introduction.
