In all the recent discussion of quinces/flowering quinces, no
one has mentioned(or maybe I just missed it) the ‘Chinese quince’ –
Pseudocydonia sinensis. I’ve got two seedlings growing here, courtesy of my friend
Pete, several years back, and farmed several others out to
coworkers/friends. Mine are still too young to fruit, but from photos I’ve
seen of the plant, it looks like a great ornamental addition to a landscape
planting, with its handsome exfoliating bark – like a crape myrtle or colorful
sycamore, glossy green leaves – that have great red-orange fall color
here – pink spring flowers, and what seems to be a pretty large
fruit, if firm and tart/astringent. Photos here: http://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20q?search=Pseudocydonia+sinensis Anybody care to comment further? Lucky Pittman Hopkinsville, KY |
