Maybe the point is to NOT invite them onto property. Otherwise, I have to
agree. Even the well-intended but inexperienced can do a lot of damage.
In s.WI I've never had any trouble pulling off the road to pick a few
handfuls of roadside crabapples, plums, blackberries, etc, and do a quick
disease-resistance eval. (Just be sure to pull completely off the pavement,
else a passing gendarme can write a ticket.) Likewise a return trip for
propagules.

Hello,
A novel idea, but in this litigation happy world, who would invite
strangers onto their property and open themselves to liability?
Falling off a ladder, twisting an ankle, poking an eye, hurting their
back, all at your invitation. Then you get into the whole arena of
pesticides, and claims of poisoning.
Then you have the unexperienced breaking limbs, and destroying fruiting
spurs.
No thanks. No way to avoid these problems. Pick it yourself and donate
to food banks anonymously.
