Hi Ginda,
I think Macintosh is really suited to Massachusetts. The apples I ate
there were great, but now that I am away from Ne England the Mac's are
different.
Soil and climate...

Sweet cider or hard cider? Pretty much any juicy eating apple is okay
for sweet cider. Around here, Macintosh is popular both for eating and
for "cider". Come to think of it, I kind of like it after it goes
fizzy, too.
