For the string-- worth remembering that american chestnuts need
cross-pollination. One isolated tree probably won't have any filled
nuts/kernels inside the spiny coverings.

If you have an American chestnut that is producing nuts, please plant them,
don't eat them. So few of these trees ever survive to produce nuts - yours
must be exceptionally blight resistant.
