Subject: [NAFEX] Pomona - Hall's hardy almond

The article I referred to is in the Summer 1986 Pomona, by Lon
Rombough, and just expands a bit on what he said today.
Hall's Hardy almond is a peach/almond cross with very early showy
pink blossoms, shiny green leaves, and a few hundred slightly bitter
almonds with thick shells.
He suggests growing the seeds as a hedgerow three to four feet apart
in hopes of getting one that blooms later, with better nuts, and the
self-fertility of a peach.
I thought that was a good idea back in '86, but I'm still waiting for
some nuts to sow.
