You could very well have a variant blight strain there, but there is another
possibility. Magness is commonly
referred to as "blight resistant". BUT, it is a funny cultivar. It is
blight resistant only if the blight enters via
twigs. Magness has been shown to be blight-susceptible if inoculum comes in
contact with the trunk. It was
first noticed after a hailstorm at Beltsville injured some Magness trees
allowing blight to enter through older
wood.
