More about nipping. Some teams can leave their horses tied at the
trailer in a busy staging area and no one will bother them, so there
would be no nipping. Other teams have to post a team member as a
guard to prevent strangers from touching everything, including the
horses. It depends on the local community (urban area vs ranching
community, locals only or tourists too) and on the location of the
staging area (side of a busy road, popular campground on a holiday
weekend, grazing lease in the middle of nowhere).
