Yelling the subject's name is often more effective than just a whistle and
usually doesn't disturb the stock. The usual false alarm is some yahoo who
doesn't take the search seriously.
By the way, how much did that radio timer thing cost? Sounds like a waste of
effort when a watch works just as well and we have clocks built into almost
every piece of gadgetry we carry : pagers, phones, two way radios, GPS
units, and wrist watches.
