Most of what you need is already aboard-- water, a shelter, snack stuff. I
usually keep one of those emergency camp kits in my vehicle-- a plastic tube
with a fire starter, soup cubes, a plastic sheet. There is also the usual
vehicle equipment- flares, blue tarp, tools, paper goods. In my saddle bags
are a poncho (doubles as ground cloth), a disposable "yellow" blanket, and
rain gear. The idea is to have what you need as part of your regular
equipment so you don't need a special pack. I hate trail mix by the way.
