[...] Stop by our website, www.nwhsar.org. =20
Welcome, Barbara, and thanks for sharing your web site! CA has new =
statewide SAR guidelines, and my county is doing a complete revamp to =
coordinate with the new state format. I wrote the rough draft for our =
new county SAR standards, and I'm in the process of writing up a new =
MSAR standard for the county that will also be proposed at the state =
level. At this point I'm gathering different options for equipment, =
particularly how that equipment might be distributed between rider and =
horse. Your web site has very good detail.
Some gear should be carried by the rider, other gear can be carried by =
the horse. If anyone else has a link with info on MSAR equipment - =
particularly regarding distribution between horse and rider - I'd sure =
appreciate your sharing that info.=20
Barbara's team uses a combination of safety vest (with pockets) and =
fanny pack for the rider's 24 hour pack. What are some distribution =
methods that other MSAR teams use that seem very successful for the =
rider who may end up on foot? And on the flip side, what distribution =
methods have been tried and are not recommended ... and why?=20
I'm also very interested in any information regarding sources for safety =
vests with multiple pockets (preferably a lightweight breathable version =
since we can have extreme summer heat locally), orange saddlebags / =
cantle bags / horn bags, fanny packs / lumbar packs, etc. (Barbara, =
could you provide me with information for your safety vests?) Web site =
links would be preferred, but if not available at least having supplier =
contact info would help me wade through the research of various options.
Also - how many of you have equipment weight restrictions, and what are =
those weight limits?
Anything I haven't mentioned that should be considered, please bring it =
to my attention.
