Wow, Trying to do anything with the free yahoo account is pretty
hard. I did a little research, they really want you to upgrade.
To that I will say that I am a big Google fanboy. All the things we
are talking about doing, imap, pop3, etc are easily done plus they
give you over 7 gigs of space. I haven't deleted an email in over
three years. And if you want to use Thunderbird, Outlook, Eudora or
Mac OS Mail ( a person fav) is no problem. Oh and it's all free. They
will even give away a branded version with your own domain name. Did
I mention everything is free? Well not free, but the advertising is
so unobtrusive that it is a worthy trade.
If your are making a change anyway it's a no-brainer. If you ready to
migrate from another system, it's still a very easy decision. Google
has tools to import your messages and contacts before switching. You
can do a phased migration and run both accounts until you have
comfortably transitioned. Google is really committed to building the
best experience and they regularly bring out new software and
features.
If any Google execs are reading this totally uncompensated
endorsement, please send me an Android phone : ).

Thunderbird can do it, but yahoo won't let the program do it unless
