Hah! There's a smartass ready to pounce every minute. But I cannot
imagine that you haven't already been told that.
There is a dealer cost on every vehicle. It is a price that a dealer
owes to the manufacturer if the vehicle is sold. It includes shipping
the car from point of manufacture to the dealership. Dealerships get
discounts if they meet or exceed their quota. So some are able to sell
below normal dealer cost and still make a profit.
When gas prices were at their zenith many dealers were offering gas
guzzlers at panic sale prices all across the country. But of course
you already knew that.
