But our 6 year old just refused to eat one of the yummiest pancakes

The pancakes had sunflower seeds and poppy seeds.
With, of course, "real maple syrup".
(No rutabaga in the pancakes.)
For the record, my favorite homemade pancakes (and waffles) are
pumpkin w/
real maple syrple.
For the record, there is only one sort of maple syrup. It comes from
Maple Trees.
Sometimes it's Grade A (very light color) and sometimes it's not. No
real matter.
That other stuff you could buy if you were deranged enough is to me a
little like some of the events in Brokeback Mountain are to some
folks. I don't care whose aunt is on the bottle.
Now, I will allow that sorghum syrup is an exception.
(I wonder if this will cause a flap: TWO provocative topics: maple
syrup and Brokeback Mountain!
Or is it three: who was Jemima, anyway? I bet she made mighty fine
pancakes.)
