Now predict where those suburbanites will live. And how long will be
the transition.
I do not see any sort of mass migration to the country. For one thing the
suburban houses will not be the source for money to buy country property and
for another thing many will still be trapped in jobs near urban centers. It
could well be as in the Soviet Union where many had access to small plots in
the country or relatives where a portion of their food was grown. Another
option would be a very direct route for barter of city commodities for food.
Some areas such as Southern California will be in real trouble as there is
not enough natural rainfall for the existing population. The current water
delivery system depends on electricity for delivery and Diesel fuel for
maintenance. Some of the best crop growing land is now buried under housing
developments and shopping centers
