We love ours already--didn't take long. Even hubby thinks they are neat
though his first comment was "We need ducks because...?" ;) I wanted ducks
more than chickens and I loved the chickens we had the last seven years, so
I'm ecstatic. There aren't nearby pools to entice them, just our pond. May
clip wings anyway, especially on the hens who appear to fly easier than the
large drakes, which resemble geese more than a duck, imho. Not sure about
that, wouldn't mind their roosting in trees and being able to fly above a
predator if need be. There will be a few nights every year when we are home
too late to tuck them into the duckhouse. We hope they do well here; if
they are as broody as the info states and a hen or two produces a large
clutch (15-20 eggs), perhaps we'll break into the butchering side of
homesteading. Heard from the guy who gave us the ducks, they found one more
brown female and as soon as they capture her, we'll have another.
