Subject: [b-hebrew] Could preposition be a morphological part?

In weqatal, waw must be a preposition. The prefix would have turned
the word into wiqtal, like niphal.
But prepositions don't change the verb's morphology and cannot turn it
from past tense into imperfect.
Am I missing something?
