So, is it possible that EHYEH has been wrongly pointed and was a hiphil?
I can't see how one could be Qal and the other causative if we are to believe
that YHWH is the third person of EHYEH.

I don't think this has been assumed. Many scholarly works as well as
many postings on this list have suggested that the Name, if a verb,
could be either Qal or Hiphil.
