I got it fixed, but I am not sure what exactly I did to fix the problem.

I simply recast everything I could think of (like gtk+, gtk+2, qc-x11,
cairo, pango, kdebase, gd, glitz, gtk-qt-engine and others) and now KDE
looks fine. I'm sure one of those was the culprit, but I don't know
which. I do know, however, that simply recasting kdebase wasn't enough
because I'd tried that before, along with other episodes of recasting
different xorg stuff, and it didn't fix it.

Anyway, in case this helps anyone else...
