Well, I have been teaching Linux to beginners up to Adv. Administrators and I
find that they all keep reaching back for the book "RedHat Linux <insert
versie nr here> Bible" and "Linux in a Nutshell".

The first is not just RedHat enabled, there is everything you wanted to have
explained to you in there.

The second has grown in the last year to twice it's original size and is a
pretty reference to ANY command you want to know about for Linux, editors,
sed tools, etc....

Depending on how much he wants to know about the commands and processed (alot
== first book, just index of commands == second book) these two will be all
he ever needs.

If you want something free then of course you could always give him my Red
Book "Linux for S/390". It is online at ibm redbooks and my site. Don't worry
about the title, there are of course specific chapters on installing and
using in mainframe environment, but there is mostly just plain Linux
information for the experienced computer user. We provided all kinds of info
on Linux commands that an experienced mainframer could quickly digest and get
using.

Good luck,
