Yep, that did it. Why would the presence of another library cause a library
not to be found? At any rate, I am using devel, but xfree86 was last
compiled on December 12th. Thanks,

i've run into this problem myself and watched many others as well. what
i've wondered is why are the freetype libraries supplied with xfree86
causing a problem with finding libX11. i'm not seeing a correlation.
anyone know why the freetype libraries do this?
