Where to start? As for what it _could_ look like, answers are right before
us and in the archives of this group all the way back to 1991 and very much
in the archives of my Permaculture list which will continue indefinitely.
Solutions that address energy issues are many: rely more on growing your
own food on your property or in neighborhood and community gardens.
Establish food farms on unused productive farmland. Organize people who
need work to grow crops on these farms. Set up marketing cooperatives for
them and
worker collectives to run the farms. It would be easy to set this up and
make it work. Reduce energy use at home. Build dwelling no larger than
absolutely necessary that are super insulated, have max solar gain in
winter and max cooling in summer with thermal storage and cycling indoors;
build solar closets. Focus on local energy resiliency. Use Permaculture to
the max. There are thousands of ways to reduce the cost of large scale food
farming while phasing in natural methods. Use Permaculture. We have the
opportunity to do this and should as soon as possible. For small scale ag
electric equipment is a great idea. Noone needs to breathe carbon monoxide
from fossil fuel powered machines. Couple this with biointensive manual
methods of crop production. Find a proper ratio between the use of electric
machines and manual labor.
