Dear Allessandro,
thank you for sharing your story.

Dear Davie, Sandra, Andy,
thanks for following up with ecolise. Maybe this organisation can bring permaculture on the political agenda, since the EU has declared 2015 as the European Year for development with the motto "our world, our dignity, our future".

that gives me the keyword and I also want to share a story with you.

It begun at the EU-learning partnership "transition to resilience" in 2010 when i was talking with John Croft about how to support Permaculture in Africa. He suggested to get in contact with Paul Yeboah in Ghana who has formed the Ghana Permaculture Institute (GPI).
Since I was visiting Paul first time in July 2011 I was impressed by his work and we agreed to work together to spread permaculture across Ghana and West-Africa.
It took a long time to work out the programme and to submit a good proposal but finally we did it in September 2014 and the EPT was all the way an empowering resource of inspiration and wisdom.
I really believe that this project will have a significant impact in Ghana.

Now i like to share with you the expected outcomes:
- in a 3-years programme there will be over 90 permaculture workshops in 20 locations across Ghana,
- 4 PDCs held in neighbouring countries,
- a seminar center with accommodation facilities will be build in Ghanas first Eco-village in Techiman and will provide residential permaculture education to facilitate agents of change,
- an International sustainability conference will be held in february 2016 in Techiman to connect different stakeholders and to start networking,
- followed by an Ecovillage Design Education course for leadership training.

The budget for the whole project is 311,221 Euros.
With the final proposal we (SONED) applied at BMZ (German ministry for economic cooperation and development) in September 2014 and got at the same time the permission to start the project at our own risc. So Pauls team started the project in September 2014. The approval of the BMZ funding of 233,416 Euros came in october. We also got 28,700 Euros from Heidehof foundation and 10,000 Euros from the foundation north-south-bridges.

Beside the 75% BMZ-funding and almost 15% co-funding (including 2% contribution from GPI= 6.224 € ) SONED as the applying NGO has to raise 10% of the project budget according to BMZ regulations.
In our case it is 32,881 of which we managed so far to raise 3,600 euros from private donors and crowdfunding, 2000 Euros we got from the project support project of the German Permaculture academy, which may give another 2000 Euros next year. Remaining in the moment 25,281 Euros.

We have time to raise this funds until the end of the project duration (Aug.2017), but for proper planning we should have done it a year before. Otherways we have to reduce the spending, also the progamme and we have to refund the donors according to the (10%-15%-75%) funding regulations.

That means each contributed Euro is mobilizing 10 Euros spending on the project or the other way around: each missing Euro in the budget will cause 10 Euros less for the project.

Beside the fact that you can help with your donation to get the whole programme running, it is also a good way to get your organisation or community connected with the permaculture network in Ghana (and Westafrica) and to appreciate in this way the amazing work of GPI. And in future you may send your volunteers for training to Ghana Permaculture Institute or use their (and also your) story of success for teaching your students.

So please get involved. Take part in the empowered fundraising and build sustainable connections to Africa (for healing some of the colonial wounds).
