I don't see why small installations using thorium technology couldn't be built locally, with short service runs for added efficiency.
This type of power grid could serve all residential needs and
would give homeowners much needed affordable energy costs.
Of course local wind and solar (photovoltaic and thermal) power generating facilities could be co-located with the thorium plants,
adding yet more efficiency, reliability and flexibility. Add to this
grid all the privately owned solar electric and wind units installed on homes with grid intertie.
