Hi Larry :-),

This is really great news! I wonder if anyone is employing
Biodynamics in an Aquafarm setting like this?

It sure is, Linda. It seems to be done in an existing marine environment
and biodynamics would have to be implemented with large silt pumps pulling murky water from well below the growing zone (water containing particulate matter, OM, trash, silt, etc. that may have settled to lower depths) up to the surface then innoculating it with beneficial microorganisms (IM, EM, BD, AACT, CT, FPE etc. in large tanks then pumping it into the multi-species vertical aquaculture farm zone.
This effluent could contain valuable nutrients for plants which in turn feed fish as well as possibly help clean up environmentally compromised ocean water, i.e. polluted water flowing into the aquaculture zone from outside that area and especially during storms. That's a really good question you asked.

BTW I recall reading ~20 years ago an article which focussed on the
successful cleanup of intensely polluted acreage by using the preps
and apparently not much else.

I'd also like to see the results of Earthpipes on Aquaculture.

I would rather count on conventional Soilfood Web materials, methods and organisms, known quantities for any critical application. AFAIC the above is for BD people familiar with such methods. BD is important and worth study and expermentation. Fact.

IMHO whoever works out a way to accomplish successful aquaculture
without the attendant pollution that currently occurs will make a
million, and IMHO deservedly so.

They already have that worked out I think. Recirculating nutrient polluted but non toxic waters can be accomplished with pumps and innoculation with beneficial microbes can be incorporated in the process. This is done with livestock manure lagoons and I do not see why it can't be done in the ocean too, though it would be more difficult, maybe solar powered low volume, low pressure pumps working continuously.....over a long time period a lot of remediation can be done and food grown. Biofuel production with kelp is interesting. On the ballot in Colorado this November is an item that would allow commercial production of marihuana for distribution to those with permit to buy it through licensed outlets. Maybe this will be the foot in the door for broad acre production of industrial hemp; think of the economic botanical uses of that plant!

You are talking aquaculture in a large body of water, saline or fresh, flowing or still. Those that profit from this will be the innovators who
design, prototype, test and use devices, processes, equipment and materials that make it work in all climates and weather conditions. I have not Googled the topic yet and I am sure I will learn a lot about it when I do. I would like to hear what our in-house researcher on aquaponics has to say, KAKerby about it.

Give me more Nori and North Atlantic Dulse the most delicious seaweed.

I think I need a 48-hour day for this next Millenium- How about you
:-)?

Yes, at least 48 hours, 12 day weeks and at least one more lifetime.

I am watching that great PBS documentary on the Everglades and Big Cypress Swamp yet again. This is their fourth showing of it.

You have a great day Larry, and thanks for all your constructive and
informative posts on the important lists you have/are growing :-). So
many topics, so little time...;^)

Thanks, Linda. I do it so others will use it and then put their own ideas into the PC list pool of knowledge. It has always been that way here on Planet Permaculture.

Namaste,

Linda

Cheers,

LL
