November 24-December 7, 2013

Speaking of Cuba, and anti-Castro pro right wing US politics & economic
interests exiles and pollution of the Everglades by those exiles and
their giant sugar cane farms draining nutrients and pesticides into the
swamp, fast forward to succeeding environmental regulations, prevention
of industrial and real estate projects and cessation of large scale
conventional farming encroaching on the Everglades.

I am now watching on PBS an excellent program on the history of the
Everglades and Big Cypress Swamp and efforts to prevent development and
farming in or near it, restoration measures carried out and maintenance
of it in as pristine condition as possible. I am amazed at the beauty,
size and scope of this incredible ecosystem and the diversity of
wildlife it provides home for. Cuba also has an amazing ecological zone
which supposedly contains the most diversity of any in the world.

It is worth taking the time so learn about the Everglades and how
valuable it is to the US. Attempts to drain and develop it are just
beyond belief to me. Fortunately the right activists and government
appointees got on the stick and prevented much damage, probably
permanent and, that might have otherwise occured. Global warming is
going to cause considerable damage to coastal ecosystems. Take a look at
what is happening along the U.S. East Coast especially in the Tidewater
Virginia marshes and estuaries.
