Hello Permaculture Elders, Designers, and Networkers

A group of us has been putting our heads and heart together and attempting to create a collective activity for a Southern California networking convergence and skills sharing of our talents in 2013. I have made a work trade with the Irvine Ranch Outdoors Education Center and excited the staff with developing permaculture programs and educational demonstrations for our lodging, meeting spaces and cooking facilities. More details can be supplied to those interested in contributing energy or help to run monthly workshops over the next year to strengthen our exposure and participant base for the convergence.

My vision is to set up participants to the convergence in an applied educational format where many of us with expertise could lead hands-on speaking and participatory workshops that produce something at the end of the convergence weekend other than sitting in a chair and absorbing. Educating our collective on skills training and sharing our experience is the unique goal. Our SC Convergence would create a legacy at the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center when we leave that can educate and illustrate basic ecological and technical permaculture principles for the many school children and teachers that come to the center during their yearly programs. Presently elementary and junior high age students explore the many ecological demonstrations that do exist on site. Plans for a high school age program and career work training has been discussed with emphasis on social cultural activities for these teenagers. Emphasis on what can be taken back to their respective schools and communities to develop zero waste communities has been suggested.

I propose meeting for the weekend of Aug 17-19 and develop programs and demonstrations that many of you may want to participate, chair or add resources to the development of these on site examples of permculture education in action and evolution and could be use for our convergence Build Here Now Weekend sharing.
