This same danger applies to those who apply for state and federal grants
for Permaculture and sustainable agriculture projects - not worth it, in my
opinion!

"Participate in the 2012 Census of Agriculture.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is preparing to mail the 2012 Census
of Agriculture to millions of U.S. farmers and ranchers in late
December. The Census of Agriculture is a complete count of U.S. farms
and ranches and the people who operate them. You can ensure you get
counted by signing up for the Census before July 1. A farm is defined as
any place that produced and sold, or normally would have sold, $1,000 or
more of agricultural products during 2012.

Local and national leaders use the Census to make decisions that
directly impact your business and your community. It is our chance to
show the economic impact of local, organic food and farming, and prove
that sustainable food systems are not a fad, but the wave of the future.
The Census is one of the most important vehicles for farmers to make
their voices heard and help determine the next steps for many of USDA’s
programs, helping not only those who already farm, but also those who
are new to agriculture. Federal support programs for beginning farmers
and organic producers rely on Census data. With the Census showing more
and more small and organic farms coming into production, it helps CFSA
and our allies across the country make the case that policies and
funding for programs that benefit small farms should not only be
preserved, but enhanced.

To sign up for the Census of Agriculture, visit www.agcensus.usda.gov
<http://www.agcensus.usda.gov>. All individual information is kept
confidential, guaranteed by law (Title 7, U.S. Code, and CIPSEA, Public
Law 107-347)."
