The field of agroecology is one of the many 'fellow travelers' to the permaculture movement.
If permaculture had focused more closely on crop ecology and community development, and embraced academic research rather than (mostly) spurned it, it would look something like the agroecology movement.

Fortunately, it didn't - more functional diversity in the system! This should be an incredible course.

This year’s International Agroecology Short Course has a special focus on conceptualizing and applying participatory action research (PAR) approaches in agroecology to develop and support sustainable food systems. In addition to providing a solid introduction to the field of agroecology, the course presents a critical overview of participatory approaches and methods, illustrated with long-term, ongoing PAR processes in the U.S. and Latin America. This year’s setting in beautiful Vermont will allow participants to learn about one of the strongest locally-driven food systems in the United States.
