"he Earth Care Manual by Patrick Whitefield is a book of permaculture for
temperate climates"

Slight caveat would be that it is a book in the main about permacultural
gardening and garden design/cool temperate, it is far from being a complete
book of permaculture, it couldn't, imo, be considered in the same league as
Mollisons book..

Older gardeining books from the 19th C show how to use manure to heat
glasshouses, same principle can be applied to houses. The Jean Pain system
can be used in the same way. There are quite a few useful ideas in the cool
temperate episode of Mollisons Global Gardener series. The best life-based
process for domestic area heating that I know of is a good party.
